From waterfront parades to neighborhood rituals, these are the moments worth showing up for.

Something shifts in the Bay Area when spring arrives. The hills turn green. The patios fill up. And dog owners - who never really left the outdoors - settle into a rhythm that feels a little more expansive, a little more social, a little more alive.

We’ve combed through the calendar from the South Bay to San Francisco to highlight the gatherings worth your time...adoption events, neighborhood walks, block parties, and a few standout Saturdays that bring the whole community out.
Consider this your local field guide to spring with your dog.
APRIL:

San Francisco · First Thursdays Monthly, ongoing
A weekly ritual worth building into your routine
Low-key, social, and easy to join — this weekly pack walk is one of those simple rituals that quietly builds community over time. A leashed walk through Mid-Market, it’s less about spectacle and more about consistency: familiar faces, a shared route, and an easy excuse to get out together.
Pacifica · Saturday, April 4
A standing invitation to meet your next dog
Rocket Dog Rescue has one of the most active adoption networks in the Bay Area, and their monthly Pacifica pop-up is a reliable way to engage. Come meet the dogs, talk to the team, and get a feel for how the rescue operates. And don’t miss other events all across the Bay Area all month long (and ongoing!)…
San Francisco · Saturday, April 11
Where design meets adoption
Adoption, but in a setting that feels distinctly San Francisco. Mid-century furniture, thoughtful curation, and a few dogs looking for their next home. It’s unexpected in the best way — and worth the stop.

Mission District · Saturday, April 18
A true neighborhood celebration
158 years in, and still one of the most important animal organizations in the country. This isn’t a gala — it’s a block party. Expect off-the-grid food trucks and beverage services, crafts, live entertainment, local vendors, pet portraits and more!
Open, inclusive, and full of energy. Bring your dog. Stay awhile.
Crissy Field San Francisco · Wednesday, April 5
A softer, slower kind of gathering
Muttville specializes in senior dogs — and their community events reflect that same warmth and intention. A slower pace, and a reminder that not every gathering needs to be high-energy to be meaningful. Gathering on Sunday, 4/5 at 11AM (weather permitting) at Sports Basement Parking Lot.
Additionally, select Lazy Dog restaurant locations around the Bay (Cupertino, Newark, San Jose and San Mateo) will be supporting the Mutts from April 6-8. Order a meal either online or at the restaurant and 15% of your bill will be donated back to Muttville. More details can be found here.
THE MAIN EVENT:
April 25: Choose Your Adventure with two of the area’s biggest annual festivities!
This is the day to plan around. Two of the Bay Area’s most iconic dog events land on the same Saturday — each offering a completely different experience.
San Francisco · 11am–4pm
Big energy, full spectacle
Carnival games, food trucks, a dog show, and thousands of attendees — DogFest is the city’s largest dog gathering, and it leans fully into the moment. If your dog thrives in a crowd, this is your scene.

Expect nonstop fun and games. The park fills with carnival-style games staffed by McKinley students, while jumping castles keep the little ones busy. Dogs are the star of the event, of course, with a day-long show and contest. Food trucks ensure that everyone is well fed, while the book fair, merchant stalls, and the doggie adoption zone provide wonderful ways to support the community.
Sausalito Waterfront · 10:30am–5pm
Scenic, social, and a little more relaxed
From parades to costume contests. Live music to vendors along the water. It’s everything you want from a Sausalito Saturday, just with more dogs.
The festivities begin with the Waterfront Dog Parade from Trident to Gabrielson Park at 10:30 AM, followed by a lively Dog Costume Contest at 11:30 AM. Bring your best-dressed pup and join the fun as Sausalito’s creative spirit takes center stage along the waterfront.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy live music in Gabrielson Park at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, explore dog-centric vendors along Tracy Way, and connect with local charities and community partners.
Our take
If you’re looking for energy, competition, and a packed park: head to Duboce.
If you want views, a slower pace, and a walkable day by the water: Sausalito wins.
Or better yet, do both! Ferry across in the morning, catch the parade, and make your way back for DogFest in the afternoon.
LOOKING AHEAD...MAY & JUNE:
Spring doesn’t stop in April — and a few early summer events are worth putting on your radar now.
Joybound People & Pets ‘Unleash Happiness’ Gala · May 30
A more formal evening that still keeps the focus where it belongs — on the animals and the people who support them.
Pints for Paws · June 6
One of the Bay Area’s best recurring events. Local brewers, a disco-theme and setting, and a crowd that shows up every year. Step into a night of sparkle and purpose, where community and compassion meet on the dance floor to change the lives of pets and their people.
Golden Gate Lab Rescue Pet Fairs
Consistent, well-attended, and highly focused. If Labs are your thing, these are worth tracking.
Why it matters
At Brindleden, we think the best communities aren’t built around one big moment - they’re built around the ones that repeat.
The Thursday walks.
The monthly pop-ups.
The events you come back to every year.
Spring in the Bay Area is full of those moments. All you have to do is show up!
